FROM SUSTAINABILITY REPORT TO DIGITAL ACCOUNTING
After ten editions of the Sustainability Report, Hitachi Rail STS decided to innovate the communication of its sustainability, adopting this innovative, dynamic and interactive sustainability communication website, that allows the ongoing updating of the Company’s social, economic and environmental performance.
The Digital Sustainability Report is a real-time tool creating a virtuous relationship amongst communication, accountability, open data, and stakeholder dialogue. It represents a clear information platform, accessible, and designed to meet the information needs of stakeholders interested in learning about the organization, its strategies and performances.
Moreover, this platform reinforces a culture based on transparency, information and evaluation of changes within all the organizations, realigning internal management and communication practices.
STRUCTURE OF THE DIGITAL SUSTINABILITY REPORT
The HOMEPAGE of the website contains the Company’s Sustainability Matrix, that represents the Hitachi contributes on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of UN Agenda 2030. SDGs are positioned in relation with the contribution of Hitachi Rail STS to their realization and their materiality for Company’s stakeholders. Clicking on every SDGs icons you could discover the material topics related with each one of them and learn more about Company’s activities and performances. Moreover, SDGs are connected to the respective strategic areas which they refer, visualized beside the Matrix.
The homepage also presents results and performance highlights, connected with the three dimensions of the sustainability: social, environmental and economic.
Besides the home, the website is articulated in three main section:
- OUR BUSINESS: presents the Company’s business and the key segment in which it is divided, focusing on innovation and other key activities.
- SUSTAINABILITY: after a brief introduction about the UN Agenda 2030, all the SDGs that affect the Company’s business are listed. For each of them there is a specific page where the Company’s activities and performances, aimed at its realization, are explained.
- DIGITAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT: is the summary page where the purposes, structure and contents of the website are explained, including how the various pages work and how to browse the Digital Sustainability Report.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
The information presented in this website refers to Hitachi Rail STS (formerly Ansaldo STS) (hereinafter “STS”) and was processed from Hitachi Rail STS’ Sustainability Report at 31st March 2019, that has been prepared in accordance with the “GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards” of the Global Reporting Initiative, using the “in accordance – core” reporting option.
The shift in the year-end to March 31st is determined by the need to align with the Japanese parent company.
In order to ensure the quality of the Sustainability Reporting, Hitachi Rail STS follows the reporting principles for defining report content and quality in accordance with the GRI Standards, which provide a set of criteria to select the information to be included in the report and the related representation methods.
